Rain of Swords Plot Details and Characters Revealed

Barbie Hsu will be playing an assasin in a new Chinese Kung Fu film called “Rain of Swords”. The film already started its production November 3, 2009. At the opening ceremony, the plot details and characters were revealed. The US$12 million-budgeted film stars Michelle Yeoh, Jung Woo Sung, Paw Hee Ching, Wang Xue Qi, and Shawn Yue.

The film follows a love story between a retiring assassin (Michelle Yeoh) and a messenger (Jung Woo Sung) whose father was killed by the assassin’s former associates. The assassin is initially unaware of this, as well as the fact that her lover is well-trained in martial arts. Meanwhile, a character played by Wang Xue Qi wants a supremely powerful sword artifact in Yeoh’s possession. After locating her, Wang Xue Qi’s character sends out assassins played by Barbie Hsu and Shawn Yue to retrieve it.

John Woo has stated that it is by far the best wuxia (martial arts) script he had in years. Rain of Swords will eventually move to Hengdian and Taiwan before wrapping up in February and is due for release in the third quarter of 2010.
